Job Summary

Under the direction of the vascular lab manager and medical director, the Vascular Sonographer performs all vascular lab exams. Provides quality patient care using vascular lab physiological and ultrasound equipment. Assists with clinical rotations in both in-patient and out-patient settings as the schedule dictates and participates in after hours and on-call services. All team members are expected to be knowledgeable and compliant with Prisma Health’s values of compassion, dignity, excellence, integrity and teamwork.

Accountabilities

  • Performs basic and intermediate level exams including AAA (EVAR), LE arterial bypass grafts, UE arterial duplex, vein mapping, and mesenteric duplex exams as prescribed by ICAVL-approved scanning protocol with minimal supervision or assistance. - 25%
  • Learn standing venous, pseudoaneurysm injections, intraoperative scanning, and renal artery exams as prescribed by ICAVL-approved scanning protocol with support from lab manager, clinical coordinator and/or senior level sonographers. Prepares for Vascular Sonographer III career ladder promotion by compiling studies and documentation according to career ladder planning policy. It is the employee's responsibility to demonstrate readiness to challenge career ladder requirements. - 25%
  • Reviews images and paperwork to ensure quality exams are complete, thorough and prepared for review by reading physicians. - 20%
  • Operates all testing equipment including annotation and calculation packages, PACS system, order entry software, reporting software, scheduling software. Reports issues/calling in repairs, performs basic maintenance, requests needed supplies, etc. - 10%
  • Rotates to in-patient and out-patient facilities as scheduled. Participates in portable studies as needed. Participates in call rotation as needed. - 10%
  • Participates as a productive team member of the department by participating in staff and departmental meetings as well as correlation/teaching conferences. Acts as a role model/preceptor for Clemson CVT students. - 10%

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, director or executive.

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate's Degree - Graduate of an accredited ultrasound or radiology program

  • Minimum Experience - 2 years experience working in a vascular lab environment performing noninvasive vascular sonography.

Required Certifications, Registries, Licenses

  • RDMS Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) only. (Lawson Code CRVT)

Other Qualifications or Experience

Thorough knowledge of vascular anatomy and hemodynamics - Required

Experience as a clinical preceptor for sonography students - Preferred

Team members employed in this job prior to July 1, 2020 are grandfathered under prior educational and experience requirements. In addition, team members must be certification eligible and will have one year to obtain required certification(s).
