About HLFCC

Highland Lakes Family Crisis Center (HLFCC) is a non-profit organization with a primary office in Marble Falls, TX, which serves all of Burnet, Blanco, Llano and Lampasas counties. HLFCC is the only domestic and sexual violence certified crisis center in the four county region and provides trauma-informed, victim centered services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence and human (sex) trafficking.

About the Position

The Children’s Counselor is dedicated to providing quality services to child victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and is responsible for providing victims and their non-offending caregivers with direct services including individual and/or group counseling, crisis intervention, safety planning, accompaniment to court or law enforcement interviews, as well as attending various community meetings to promote awareness of HLFCC services and ensure victims’ rights are protected. All services are provided within the context of a trauma-informed approach. This position involves both on-call and in-office responsibilities.

Key Duties

  • Provide immediate crisis intervention, needs assessment, and safety planning with all survivors who access HLFCC services.
  • Provide client focused intake, clinical assessment, crisis intervention and ongoing counseling for child, adolescent, and family counseling services to clients who have experienced domestic violence, sexual violence and/or human trafficking.
  • Provide individual and group counseling to child survivors of domestic violence, dating violence and sexual assault and their non-offending parents/caregivers within HLFCC’s four county service area.
  • Provide advocacy and accompaniment assistance for survivors attending criminal/civil justice proceedings, law enforcement interactions, and/or medical intervention as requested by the survivor.
  • Provide case management to assist survivors with securing needed resources and services not provided by HLFCC.
  • Serves as agency’s school liaison as needed and requested by clients.
  • Attend various community meetings and conducts outreach to promote awareness of HLFCC’s services.
  • Respond to crisis calls during scheduled shift and participate in 24 hour on-call rotation.
  • Complete required documentation and enter data into client database in an accurate and timely manner as set forth in HLFCC policies.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development including trainings as required to maintain licensure.

Required Education and Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work or Counseling, in possession of or currently seeking Texas professional licensure in good standing: LPC, LPC-Intern, LMSW, LCSW, LMFT Associate or LMFT
  • Two or more years of relevant professional experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to establish rapport, trust, and boundaries with children, parents, and families
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to function as a part of a team and work in collaboration with outside agencies.
  • Ability to provide culturally competent services and work with diverse staff and clientele in an empathetic and non-judgmental manner.
  • Strong organizational and written communication skills.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license access to reliable transportation.
  • Familiarity with community-based services in Burnet, Blanco, Llano and Lampasas counties.

Schedule

The Children’s Counselor is a full-time, 40 hours per week, exempt position. The typical schedule is Monday-Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm. Some flexibility in the schedule is available.
