Little Sisters of the Poor is currently looking for a full time Cook to work in their Home located in Newark, DE.

JOB OBJECTIVE:

Responsible for storage, preparation, cooking and serving of food for Residents according to menus and specific modified diets; and for a clean sanitary kitchen and equipment. These services must be consistent with the Home's standards and philosophy and in compliance with all regulations, codes, policies, and procedures that govern the facility.

JOB STANDARDS:

  • Must be able to work cooperatively for the best interests of Residents and the facility.
  • Must be adaptable to changing work schedules and enjoy a non-routine job.
  • Must be a High School graduate or the equivalent with professional food preparation training or verifiable experience in quantity food production or hotel/restaurant cooking.
  • Must be able to follow written and verbal directions and work independently.
  • Must have good reading and math skills.
  • Must understand modified diets and their expected therapeutic value.
  • Must be able to control his/her own emotional reactions and not to project them into supervisory decisions and actions.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to supervise and make independent decisions and assume responsibility.
  • Must be capable of dealing effectively with supervisory and non-supervisory personnel from all departments as well as vendors, Residents, and visitors.
  • Must have the ability to withstand temperature changes, stand for long periods, bend, lift, reach, and walk.
  • Must be able to follow a standardized recipe and be creative
  • Must be able to complete assigned tasks with accuracy and on a timely basis.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Must be willing to work variable hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Must have finger and manual dexterity and motor coordination to manipulate kitchen utensils skillfully.
  • Must have form perception and color discrimination to detect differences in appearance of food, indicating spoilage or contamination.
  • Must have specific knowledge of care, use and sanitation of equipment and utensils used in the storage, preparation, and handling of food.
  • Must have verbal ability to supervise and/or explain job duties to workers.
  • Must possess the ability to perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
