Field Service Technician

Summary: You will be responsible for equipment installation, technical support, and repair of all VC999 product lines and for fostering great customer relations. You will investigate and resolve reports of technical issues with equipment, and eliminate future operational or service challenges for customers. Due to our customers’ needs, priorities will change based on customer situations so individuals must flexible and adapt to ever changing work schedule and priorities.

Business is based out of North Kansas City, not a remote position.

Time Utilization: You will have a travel percentage goal of up to 75%. Normal business hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm (1 hour lunch break) when in the Kansas City Office. Travel schedules will be flexible to accommodate our customers’ schedules and you must be willing to work outside normal business hours as the job dictates.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • You will communicate with Service Manager on a daily basis and give updates on current job status and receive additional job assignments. Listens attentively and asks questions as appropriate. Completes work assignments with minimum supervision. Retrieve and respond to messages daily on all communication tools.
  • You will consistently make travel arrangements within company policy guidelines and in the most cost effective and time efficient manner possible. Keeping service team members and customers informed of arrival times. Travel arrangements will include: hotel, car rental and airline flights.
  • You will install and/or repair new and used equipment at customer’s facility to ensure full functionality according to specifications in professional and timely manner. At completion of installation, all technical documentation will be provided to the Service Manager.
  • You will provide on-site technical assistance in a courteous, professional and confident manner to help troubleshoot and repair equipment in a reasonable amount of time. You will provide a communication link between the customer and VC999 Service/Sales to help ensure that effective service is provided to the customer.
  • You will conduct training for customers professionally and confidently on the safe operations of equipment, maintenance, parts ordering and safety issues of equipment, to follow specified procedures for safety instruction. Provide contact information for service team for future service needs and parts needs. Ensure the customer is comfortable with operational and safety procedures of their equipment.
  • You will complete Service Documentation regarding what was repaired during the service visit and submit related expenses for the trip and time spent on the service call. Report will be complete, accurate, and submitted within one week of site departure. Weekly Expense Reports are also to be completed in accurate and timely manner.

Education/Experience:
Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or two years field service, packaging, maintenance or related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, and machine shop skills required. Mechanical and electrical aptitude needed.

Must be able to engage and communicate persuasively and effectively with customers in all settings and situations in regards to all responsibilities.

Must have the ability to respond and adjust to changing or new situations. Work well in high stress environments and maintain professionalism in dealing with customers and co-workers. Needs to be a Self-starter and have the ability to work in unsupervised settings.

Must be able to troubleshoot complex mechanical, electronic and operational aspects of machines including an understanding of relative and absolute pressure when dealing with vacuum systems. Responsible for machine service and with a focus on problem solving techniques and preventative maintenance. Requires excellent customer service skills.

Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. Ability to effectively write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or associates of organization.

Math Ability:
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, you must be proficient in Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software; Internet software; Human Resource systems; ERP systems; and Database software.

Certificates and Licenses:
Current Valid driver’s license to drive in the United States. Must have the ability to obtain a Passport.

The associate is frequently exposed to extreme cold (non-weather); extreme heat (non-weather) and risk of electrical shock. The associate is occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

While performing the duties of this Job, the associate is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The associate is frequently required to climb or balance. The associate is occasionally required to sit.
