Due to our phenomenal growth in the area, Publix Supermarkets is hiring Full-Time Grocery Team Leaders (GTLs) to join our team in the area!

The GTL role is a Position Leading to Management aimed at equipping associates to transition into Publix management, leadership & supervisory roles.

The geographical areas that were are hiring are:
Marietta, Mableton, Powder Springs and Smyrna.

Main Function

A grocery team leader is responsible for assisting the grocery manager and/or assistant grocery manager in the operation of a quality grocery department.

Duties and Responsibilities
A grocery team leader’s responsibilities include, but not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for the productivity of the grocery department in the absence of the Grocery Manager and Assistant Grocery Manager
  • Assists customers and delivers premier customer service, coordinates and participates in inventory management and product replenishment across all grocery categories
  • Unloading product from trucks and organizes the stock room
  • Building of displays, the stocking process and shelf-set maintenance
  • Participates in housekeeping, sanitation and cleaning of the store
  • Directs and trains grocery clerks and grocery replenishment specialists
  • May serve as the associate in charge during non-business hours
  • Cross trains on DSD receiving and pricing accuracy (scan/price clerk duties)
  • Operates stock room equipment (such as pallet jack, scissor lift, baler, compactor and scrub machine)
  • Assists in other duties as assigned

Working Conditions

  • While work may be performed in other departments, a grocery team leader’s duties are performed primarily in the grocery department and involve accepting responsibility for leading others. A grocery team leader is exposed to various temperature changes and work environments. Work includes walking, standing, lifting, moving, carrying, and stocking products, along with frequent interaction with customers, associates, truck drivers, and vendors.

Minimum Qualifications
The minimum qualifications for the position of grocery team leader are:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and
  • Three months of full-time experience as a Publix grocery replenishment or grocery specialist position or equivalent external experience.

Other qualifications

  • Knowledge of retail food merchandising and inventory control
  • Ability to read, write and do simple math problems
  • Verbal ability and numerical aptitude
  • Ability to interpret, understand, and follow instructions and solve problems
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Potential career progression

  • Experience as a grocery team leader may qualify candidates to progress into the following position within the grocery department
  • Assistant grocery manager
