Position Location: Charlotte, NC
Hours: This position works on a three week rotation schedule. One week on and two weeks off. M - F; 8:30p - 7:30a and Sa - Su; 7:30p - 7:30a.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Imaging Workflow Specialist/ATC serves as the liaison between radiologist, medical staff from various facilities, Teleradiology sites, and more. Their primary function is to support patient care workflow and reading processes by distributing work appropriately, following workflow guidelines from the Operation Committee directives, and communicating effectively to provide good customer service. The ATC is a key decision maker in problem solving as issues arise across the healthcare facilities. This problem solving requires strong critical thinking and decision-making skills while thinking creatively to facilitate patient care. The ATC role team is a customer focused service line and requires the ability to connect with others through remote technology. ATC Team workflow is a multi-faceted role that involves administrative support functions, working in clinical programs and fielding incoming phone calls. The job is fast-paced, variable and requires quick thinking.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Good teamwork and team engagement are essential for this role. The role is primarily remote so being able to effectively communicate with team members through Microsoft Teams. Microsoft Teams is used as the communication system for a 24 hr team. Overnight team members are expected to monitor teams for updates to workflow or team communication even during off weeks. Understanding and executing changes in workflow are expected even if these changes were implemented during off weeks.
  • Ability to learn the image archival and workflow management system (within multiple PACS systems) to aid in digital workflow which directly impacts patient care. This includes merging/ linking imaging exams, fixing system exceptions, and tracking down outside imaging exams, exporting exams, etc. It also includes monitoring imaging exams in the system for appropriate turnaround times system wide and assisting as needed to meet agreed upon standards.
  • Effective communication with Radiologists. This includes having a full understanding of the workflow determined by the Operations Committee and adhering to the details required to appropriately distribute imaging cases.
  • Able to work independently and take ownership of the ATC workflow in patient care.
  • Responsible for learning the Atrium and non-Atrium workflow (images, report transmission, Teleradiology) and distribution of subspecialty work.
  • Flexibility to assist in team staffing when needed, due to unexpected staffing shortages.
  • Continue to learn and develop job responsibilities as the workflow needs change or new workflows are developed by the Operations Committee.
  • Initiative to continued growth in understanding of the job duties and request any additional assistance/training as needed once initial training is completed.
  • Taking ownership in learning basic PACS (image archival system) processes.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Licensing/Certification:
  • Junior college/Associate degree (Medical background helpful but not required)
  • ARRT Certification helpful but not required
  • Equivalent work experience (in lieu of Associate degree) may be considered
Experience (years and type):
  • 2 years of administrative medical office experience
  • Equivalent radiology experience: technical radiology experience preferred but not required
Knowledge and Skills:

  • Confidence to make good decisions and stand by them. This role requires good decision making with the expectation of learning from mistakes to be effective.
  • Ability to complete work in a timely manner and meet specific timelines for best patient outcomes
  • Working knowledge of MS Excel helpful
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently and make decisions using good critical thinking skills
  • Organization and close attention to detail
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately to maintain exam completion standards.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, from a remote setting.
  • In a system downtime situation, willingness to work onsite for system access.
  • Support of team staffing needs to include flexibility during staffing times of staffing shortage
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology specifically Technical Radiology Terms: All Modalities helpful

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
  • Primarily sitting
  • Lifting up to 25lbs.
  • This position requires sitting for most of the shift. The environment is fast paced with phone calls, instant message communication via Microsoft Teams, and emails from radiologists or staff needing assistance. Must be well organized, with high attention to detail when maintaining the workflow and merging imaging exams. Must be solution oriented to work through any challenges to complete the work accurately within the set guidelines.
  • Day-to-day, working alongside other ATC team members remotely will be the norm.
  • This position is a remote position, however, when connectivity is an issue, team members are expected to go on-site to be able to perform job duties.
  • This is a weekday/evening position which requires working seven days on and two weeks off. During those seven days, the shift is 12 hours and requires Saturday, Sunday, and holiday coverage during the scheduled work week. Flexibility is required and it may be necessary to work different shifts during times of staffing shortages to include the potential for working overnight and additional hours off shift.
  • When filling in during a staff shortage, it may require one to work alone requiring independent quick critical thinking and decision-making skills.
