Summary
The English Language Institute (ELI), a unit of the University of Michigan’s College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, is seeking two or more energetic, engaging, and effective ESL/EFL instructors to teach in an intensive summer language and cultural exchange program for students from South Korea, sponsored by the University of Michigan’s College of Literature, Science, and the Arts and offered jointly by ELI and the Nam Center for Korean Studies.
Program dates: July 10 – August 5, 2023 (3 and 4-week appointments available)
Effort: 15-40% summer half-term appointment for 15-38 total classroom contact hours
Schedule:
- Teaching: Monday/Wednesday 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. and/or Tuesday/Thursday 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
- Orientation and Student project presentations: Monday, July 10: 9:30-12:00 Friday, July 28, 9:30-12:00 (lunch provided)
Responsibilities*
ELI instructors are responsible for planning and delivering high-quality language lessons in accordance with program and curricular guidelines and best practices in second language instruction. Instructors are expected to attend pre- and in-term program meetings and to provide students with regular, timely feedback on all assignments.
Required Qualifications*
Successful candidates will hold a master’s degree or higher, preferably in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or related field. They will also have at least two years’ of professional ESL or EFL teaching experience. Excellent oral and written communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively are also required.
Desired Qualifications*
Teaching experience at the college/university level is desired.
Union Affiliation
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
