(Senior) Camp Counselor

Camp Name: Grow Your World Summer Camp “I Came to Create”

Camp Mission: Our camp is dedicated to providing a safe and inclusive environment for youth to learn, grow, and have fun. Our camp will balance mental, emotional and physical enrichment throughout each day and week. Through our workshops and camp culture, we will practice and embody the core values of equity, care, collaboration, and self-actualization.

Job Overview: We are seeking a Senior Summer Youth Camp Counselor to join our team for the upcoming summer season (training: last week of June, camp: July 3-28, 2023). The ideal candidate is a college student with experience working with youth in a camp setting and/or passion for hands-on learning, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to creating a positive and inclusive camp experience. As a Senior Youth Camp Counselor, you will work closely with the Junior Counselors and other senior staff to ensure the safety, well-being, and enjoyment of our campers. You will also be responsible for modeling equity, care, collaboration, and self-actualization, our camp core competencies.

Camp locations are in Carrboro (901 West Main Street, Carrboro, NC 27510) and Durham (206 Gilbert Street, Durham, NC 27701). Please specify on your application which location you are applying for.

Responsibilities:

- Create a safe and inclusive environment for all campers.

- Develop and lead activities that align with the camp's core values.

- Mentor and supervise Junior Counselors and campers.

- Encourage campers to develop their personal interests and talents.

- Model camp core competencies.

- Provide emotional support and guidance to campers.

- Foster positive relationships among campers and staff.

- Communicate effectively with parents and other senior staff.

- Follow and enforce all camp policies and procedures.

- Participate in staff training and meetings.

- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

- Must be at least 18 years old and enrolled in a college program.

- Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

- Experience working with children in a camp or similar setting.

- Strong leadership and mentoring skills.

- Passion for creating a positive and inclusive camp experience.

- Model, lead and participate in activities with campers.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- Flexibility, creativity, and adaptability.

- Ability to work collaboratively with a team.

- Valid NC Drivers License preferred.

- Bi/Multilingual a plus.

Working Conditions:

- This is a part-time, seasonal position.

- Morning shift (Carrboro only): 8:30 am - 1 pm or afternoon shift (Carrboro and Durham): 12:00 pm - 6 pm, Monday - Friday

- Meals are provided.

- Access to camp facilities and activities during off hours.
