About the YMCA of Greater Brandywine: The YMCA of Greater Brandywine (YGBW), an association of eight YMCAs serving Chester County, is a non-profit organization committed to nurturing the potential of every child, promoting healthy living and fostering social responsibility through life-changing programs for all.

Position Purpose: The Brandywine YMCA is looking for enthusiastic, energetic and mature individuals to serve as lifeguards. The lifeguard creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
  • Knows, understands and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic areas.
  • Acts professionally and responsibly when communicating with members, co-workers and the public.
  • Consistently enforces all pool rules at all times with courtesy and fairness.
  • Assists with maintaining a clean facility by following the down duties and other responsibilities while on rotation away from actively lifeguarding.
  • Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures; completes related reports as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
  • At least 15 years of age or older
  • Ellis Certification (Available through the YMCA)
  • Up to 4 hours of additional training required every month
