This position provides a unique opportunityto learn advanced, marketable engineering skills and is ideal for undergraduatespursuing studies in all engineering fields as well as chemistry, and physics. Many of ourgraduates are working for semiconductor companies such as Intel, Micron, and TexasInstruments. The Nanofab Cleanroom regularly works with faculty research projects fromacross campus and the successful candidate would get to interact with a diverse set ofresearch projects in every major engineering and science discipline. Students would alsobe exposed to a variety of industry research projects and have the opportunity to networkwith representatives from leading technology companies. The successful candidate will assist with the daily operations of the Cleanroom, with afocus on supporting the researchers by maintaining and restocking cleanroom supplies,chemicals, and gases. Students will learn from the full-time engineering staff of the lab,and will report to them directly for guidance and supervision. Job duties will also involveroutine maintenance of advanced instruments and assisting users with the lab. This jobdescription is not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory ofall duties, responsibilities and qualifications required of employees assigned to the job This is an entry level position and on-the-job training is provided. The ability tounderstand and carry out verbal and written instructions; the ability to keep accuraterecords; strict adherence to and knowledge of safety protocols, demonstrated humanrelations, and effective communication skills are required.
A general knowledge of laboratory procedures, equipment and terminology; the ability tooperate and care for laboratory equipment; and a knowledge of appropriate chemicalhandling techniques preferred.

Responsibilities
Assist engineers with daily operations of Utah Nanofab Cleanroom, including inspection,care, and cleaning of laboratory equipment; organize and restock supplies, and maintainorderly and clean gowning areas. Assist lab users with questions regarding safety anduser policies, lab access, and computer logging system. During the first year, the studentwill be directly supporting operations. As the student progresses, more responsibilitieswill be given to operate and/or repair advanced cleanroom equipment, including periodicprocess monitoring runs for performance trend charting. This job description is notdesigned to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties,responsibilities and qualifications required of employees assigned to the job.
Work Environment and Level of Frequency that may be required: NearlyContinuously: Office & Cleanroom environment. Often: A variety of physical conditions,such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving equipment and supplies, electricalcurrent, or exposure to gasses and chemicals. Seldom: Working on ladders and highplaces.
Physical Requirements and Level of Frequency that may be required NearlyContinuously: Hearing, listening, talking. Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing),walking, standing, sitting. Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead.


Minimum Qualifications

Preferences
Undergraduate students in Engineering and Science are preferred.

Also preference given to:
  • Work-study eligible
  • Ability to commit to 15+ hours per week, with a flexible schedule during business hours
  • Demonstrated interest in a career within micro-scale devices such as MEMS orsemiconductor devices
  • Interest manifest as a desire to remain in this job during the course of theundergraduate academic program
Minimum Qualifications: General knowledge of lab safety and cleanroom procedures.Mechanical ability to operate and care for lab equipment preferred. Demonstratedcomputer skills and effective communication skills with good customer service arerequired.
