COOS HEAD FOOD CO-OP
CLOSING CASHIER JOB DESCRIPTION
Purpose: To provide prompt, friendly, helpful customer service and to quickly and accurately ring up customers’ groceries. Keep the front end of the store clean, organized, and running efficiently. Perform store closing duties.
Responsibilities:
I. CASHIERING
A. Greet customers and make eye contact.
B. Process customer purchases quickly and accurately.
C. Call for back-up as needed so customers wait as little as possible to be checked out.
D. Bag customer purchases as needed and ask customers if they need assistance. For those needing assistance, carry out groceries or call other staff if available.
E. Be responsible for and knowledgeable about monthly sales, specials and upcoming store events to inform customers.
F. Follow co-op return policies and ensure returns are properly handled.
G. Take customer special orders.
II. CUSTOMER SERVICE
A. Be responsible and knowledgeable for understanding the guidelines in the Cashier
Handbook.
B. Become familiar with co-op policies and products in order to answer customer questions.
Refer unresolved questions or problems to appropriate staff.
C. Answer and route phone calls, take and route messages as needed.
D. Explain benefits of co-op membership to interested customers, sign up new members, ensuring application is filled out and signed.
E. Alert staff to potential shoplifters, disorderly customers, or other emergencies.
F. Assist customers with product questions in a prompt, friendly, courteous manner, referring them to other staff when necessary.
IV. OTHER DUTIES
A. Face shelves when there are no customers to assist. Maintain front end in a clean, orderly condition following Front End Responsibilities list.
B. Clean up spills, remove trash promptly, sweep and mop floor.
C. Advise General Manager of equipment problems or hazardous situations.
D. Attend mandatory staff meetings.
E. Perform store closing procedures.
F. Complete other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Experience serving the public.
- Accuracy, attention to detail.
- Ability to handle multiple demands.
- Ability to stay calm under pressure.
- Ability to project an outgoing, friendly personality.
- Ability to stand for long periods.
- Regular, predictable attendance.
- Willingness and ability to learn and grow to meet the changing requirements of the job.
Desired:
- Ability to learn and use a point of sales (POS) register for extended periods of time.
- Basic math and counting skills; ability to use calculator.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $13.50 - $14.50 per hour
