CPS CVS PD Clerk III
Position can be officed in Lufkin, Jasper, Beaumont, Woodville, Lumberton, Port Arthur, Orange, or Kirbyville where office space is available
CPS CVS PD Clerk III - The position provides support work to two Program Directors and unit staff. The position interacts routinely with Texas Department of Family and Protective Services staff, the judicial system, the general public, and representatives from various organizations.


Essential Job Functions:
  • Types correspondence, forms, narratives, travel vouchers, meeting notes, performance evaluations, and other documents to support work of the Program Director.

  • Processes and handles completing forms, assists with legal documents, takes messages, and records information.

  • Prepares and maintains statistical reports, leave and personnel records, case control systems, case records and related files for the unit.

  • Performs data entry from hard copy documents to create data files.

  • Performs other duties as assigned and required to maintain unit operations.

  • Promotes and demonstrates appropriate respect for cultural diversity among coworkers and all work-related contacts.

  • Attends work regularly in accordance with agency leave policy.


  • Knowledge Skills Abilities:
    Knowledge of Child Protective Services mission statement, basic understanding of Investigations, FBSS and CVS services to families and children and the Texas Family Code.
    Must have skills in Microsoft, Excel, Power Point and CAPPS.
    Ability to commmunicate well both orally and in writing.
    Ability to handle difficult situations on the phone and in person.
    Be skilled at tracking systems.
    Be skilled at setting up tracking systems to assist staff in meeting deadlines.

    None Required


    Initial Selection Criteria:
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent

  • One year full-time administrative support, general office, clerical, secretarial or Texas Department of Family and Protective Services experience.

  • Acceptable Substitutions:
  • Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required experience


  • Additional Information:
    starting salary for employees coming from other state agencies within Texas.
    Bilingual applicants (SPANISH/ENGLISH) are encouraged to apply. Bilingual applicants selected for this position may qualify for an increase at the point of hire after successfully passing a bilingual skills test. (The applicant will need to be fluent in writing/speaking in Spanish in order to receive the salary increase).

    Administrative Assistants may be required to work together with DFPS caseworkers in providing supervision of children without placement (CWOP). Children can vary in age, but primarily the population that will be worked with is children that can range from 10 to 17 years of age. Responsibilities of the position include assisting the DFPS caseworker with monitoring children and ensuring needs are met during their office or community location stay to include: safety, food, hygiene, education and entertainment/recreational activities. This could require working outside of the normal work schedule. If so, overtime compensation may be earned.
