Job Title: Assistant Principal, ElementaryLocation: Assigned LocationJob Group: AdministratorPay Level: ExemptReports To: SuperintendentSummary: Assists the Principal in the efficient operations of the school and works to ensure the safety and welfare ofall enrolled students and assigned staff. Provides administrative and instructional leadership to faculty and staffthrough the development and oversight of assigned educational programs, school-related activities, and operationalservices. Ensures a safe, and healthy social-emotional learning environment, effective educational atmosphere,provides discipline as necessary, and enforces school policy.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Other duties may be assigned)1. Participates in a distributed leadership model and provides operational leadership by: a.

Administering student-related processes that assures attendance, achievement, growth and developmentincluding, but not limited to: student evaluation, standardized testing, conduct and discipline, studentassignments to classes, and the maintenance and transfer of records.b. Supporting professional development, programs, and curriculum developmentc. Developing and/or using current data to assess and inform student learning, instructional practices, identifyschool resource needs, and school improvement initiatives.d. Under the direction of the Principal, collaborating with administration at the middle and high school levels toensure the proper development and implementation of personal learning plans (PLPs).e.

Coordinating with the Principal and the Executive Director of Learning to establish teaching schedules andan annual schedule of events including, but not limited to: student assessments, staff professionaldevelopment activities, and the school calendar.f. Developing and maintaining appropriate assignments for non-teaching duties to educators and support staff.g. Implementing policy and procedure changes as mandated by State and/or Federal regulations and asdirected by the Principalh. Updating and publishing staff and student handbooks, school-related publications, and website content.i.

Assisting in the preparation of the school budget; monitoring expenditures in assigned areas to ensureefficacy and a direct link to the educational goals of the district.j. Assisting in interviewing and recommending prospective teachers and staff members for hire.k. Directing and supervising the work of assigned personnel and manages personnel issues and concerns.Assuming responsibility for the operation of the school in the absence of the Principal.l. Responding appropriately to concerns and issues from staff, students, and families.

Assisting in fosteringand modeling good interpersonal relations among staff, students and families.2. Provides instructional leadership staff supervision evaluation by: a. Maintaining, under the leadership of the Principal and in conjunction with the Executive Director of Learningand other school administrators, a cohesive PK-12 educational plan consistent with the District Ends policyand the Vermont Agency of Education.b. Coordinating with the Principal to ensure a regular review and revision of school curricula.

Leadingassigned district-approved, building-level improvements of the educational program.c. Coordinating with Guidance staff to ensure accurate completion of school attendance register, gradereports, and all end of the year reports.d. Actively working with teachers to improve instructional skills and other areas of competence throughfrequent clinical observation, instructional conferencing, faculty meetings, and other means.e. Assisting in developing performance improvement plans and/or professional non-renewal or dismissalprocesses in consultation with the Principal.3.

Provides student services and support by: a. Interacting with students in a constructive manner and conveying expected behavior. Upholds discipline asnecessary, according to due process rights of students and in keeping with school behavior managementprograms.b. Working to maintain good attendance on the part of pupils.4.

General Responsibilitiesa. Assisting in establishing and maintaining favorable relationships with local community groups andindividuals to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and programs.b. Leading district-wide activities, in-service programs, and committees as appropriate.c. Performing other duties and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent,Principal, or their designee which will assist them in providing services to the school district.d.

Remaining current on educational/school administration issues with which appropriate licensure may bemaintained.Supervisory Responsibilities: Assists with the supervision and evaluation of staff. Responsibilities may includeinterviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance;rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Is responsible for the overalldirection, coordination, and evaluation of the school when the Principal is absent from the building. Carries outsupervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's rules, policies, and applicable laws.

Regularattendance in accordance with the established work schedule is required.Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform eachessential duty satisfactorily. A minimum 5 years teaching and/or administrative experience preferably at the elementaryschool level.

Knowledge and skills in the areas of program and instructional evaluation is required. Demonstratedexperience in leadership, planning, budgeting and organizational abilities. Knowledge of current research,philosophy and practice. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriateand acceptableCertificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Teaching Certificate in PK-6, or Special Education, Administrativeendorsement (eligible)Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret information from professional journals, financial reports,government regulations, legal documents, testing and assessment data.

Ability to write reports, professionalcorrespondence, presentations, and procedure manuals in a generally accepted style and format. The ability tocommunicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form is required.Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.Demonstrated ability to develop and manage budgets preferred.Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability tointerpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with severalabstract and concrete variables.Other Skills and Abilities: Personal computer, word processing, database, internet, and spreadsheet skills. Abilityto apply knowledge of current education research and theory.

Demonstrated success in administrative planning,program development, utilization and modification of resources is preferred. A demonstrated ability to establish andmaintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community is essential. Ability to performduties with awareness of all district requirements and School Board policies are also required.
