Northrop Grumman's Space Systems is seeking a Principal/ Sr Principal System Administrator in Linthicum, MD with the desire to learn new technologies to join the Remote Sensing Programs Software team to help maintain, enhance, and improve our systems used for testing and running cutting edge space products.

What you’ll get to do:

Responsibilities:

  • Set up user accounts and workstations.
  • Provide software maintenance and install software upgrades and patches.
  • Create backup or recover files of systems.
  • Perform and log systems and software scans using utilities such as Fortify and Nessus tools.
  • Monitor performance and maintain systems according to requirements.
  • Troubleshoot issues and outages.
  • Ensure security through access controls, backups, and firewalls.
  • Upgrade systems with new releases and models.
  • Update Lab Operations Policy and Procedures including Information Systems Security Plans (ISSP) and Plan of Actions & Milestones (POA&M) and ensure they are being followed.
  • Report project status as required for all recurring and non-recurring efforts.
  • Communicate effectively with network, software, system engineers, PC desktop technicians, project managers, end users, and IT personnel.
  • Running shell scripts and/or Bash Scripts.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Principal System Admin: Associate's degree and 8 years of experience, or Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of experience, or Master’s degree and 4 years of experience; a High School diploma or equivalent with 10 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a completed degree

  • Sr Principal System Admin: Associate's degree and 11 years of experience, or Bachelor’s degree and 9 years of experience, or Master’s degree and 7 years of experience; a High School diploma or equivalent with 13 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a completed degree.

  • Ability to obtain/maintain TS/SCI clearance.

  • IAM Level I certification (ex: Security+ CE) or greater; maintaining the required certification will be a condition of continued employment.

  • Strong understanding of Linux and Windows Server administration and support of engineering tools.

  • Experience in Security and update systems and networks based on company and government requirements (security patches, anti-virus, hardware refresh, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in IS related field.

  • Active TS/SCI clearance

  • Experience operating under and managing systems within NISPOM Chapter 8, DCID 6/3-ICD 503, RMF, STIG, JAFAN, or JSIG information system environments.

  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining computer hardware in a networked environment.

  • Server management experience.

  • Understanding of basic networking, including subnets, routing, and VLANs; Cisco experience and/or certification.

  • Windows AD, LDAP, VMWare, and knowledge of SAN storage systems.

  • Linux Operating System certification for current versions.

  • VMWare experience with current version.

  • Knowledge of environmental monitoring tools (HBSS/Solar Winds/Splunk).

  • Rudimentary Scripting experience.

  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, with internal and external customers, in written and verbal format.

  • Experience with the creation and deployment of system images in an enterprise environment.

  • Experience with Certification & Accreditation process.

  • DoD 8570 Certification in a primary OS (Windows, Linux, Cisco).



Salary Range: $90,600 USD - $136,000 USD
Salary Range 2: $112,300 USD - $168,500 USD


Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
