Portugalia Marketplace is a one-of-a-kind Portuguese specialty food grocer dedicated to promoting Portuguese culture and cuisine. Founded over 30 years ago by Fernando Benevides and now run by his two children, Michael and Jennifer, the 20,000-square-foot store has become the leading provider of Portuguese specialty foods and home goods in the United States. With over 1300 different Portuguese wines and spirits, a café offering Portuguese baked goods, a prepared foods counter, and a large, temperature-controlled room for salt cod, customers can truly immerse themselves in Portuguese culture and cuisine.

In addition to our extensive selection of food and drink, Portugalia Marketplace also features the Portuguese design shop, Artigos, which sells products from established brands such as Vista Alegre as well as new and exciting designers like Casa Cubista. With fine China, handicrafts, soaps, cork objects, costume jewelry, and home furnishings, Artigos offers a diverse range of products for those looking for a touch of Portuguese style in their home. And, with the ability to ship both perishable and non-perishable products nationwide, customers can easily get their hands on the products they love, no matter where they live.

Portugalia Marketplace is a family owned and operated Specialty food store in Fall River, MA and is looking for one General store manager to join our 47-person strong team. Our ideal candidate is self-driven, ambitious, and hard-working.

Responsibilities include:

· Ensure an excellent in-store customer experience in alignment with our vision and mission.

· Effectively manage retail staff, with an eye on effective delegation, empowering employees, and maximizing employee output

· Event planning- curate and plan private events.

· Personnel

o hiring, develop, & train employees

o Provide on the job training. Follow up with employees to evaluate their learning process experience.

o Supervise department staff in day-to- day operations.

o Demonstrate leadership by providing honest feedback, coaching, mentoring and recognition.

o Conduct scheduled performance evaluations and reviews.

o Follow disciplinary action process as needed per established store policy.

o Maintain a weekly employee labor schedule, ensuring hours are aligned with the targeted labor cost.

Required qualifications:

· Experience in running a food market/grocery store or similar

· Supervisory experience (hiring, training, evaluating, compensating, and firing)

· Excellent leadership skills with demonstrated abilities to resolve problems and to understand and support the importance of structure, organization, policies, and procedures.

· Extensive experience in customer service

· Experience in personnel management

· Digital literacy (basic computer skills, Microsoft, point of sales systems.

· Ability to follow instructions and procedures, work without direct supervision on a variety of tasks simultaneously, and delegate tasks and objectives to subordinates.

Schedule

This position is a full-time, salaried position. Schedule will be flexible with the exception of scheduled meetings, including some evening/weekend availability. The schedule will be determined and managed by the owners. Performance review will be conducted on an annual or as needed basis.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
