Job Summary


Promotes the pursuit of extramural funding by KSU faculty and staff for research activities by disseminating funding information; performing outreach activities to the campus, including organizing workshops on successful grant-writing strategies; working with faculty to identify potential funding sources and potential collaborators; and to develop individualized strategic plans to obtain extramural funding.

Responsibilities

1. Guides faculty in independent funding search strategies, interpreting requests for requests for proposals (RFPs), and proposal development using multiple resources
2. Designs and implements opportunities and resources (in person and online) to support faculty with research development and grant writing skills, in person consultations, coaching, trainings, workshops, presentations, curricula, handouts, workbooks, etc.
3. Assists faculty with developing ideas for effective proposals, interpreting requests for proposals (RFPs), and provides customized proposal development assistance
4. Builds and manages proposal development resources to include sample proposals and templates
5. Assists with drafting, updating, and/or reviewing ancillary proposal application components and forms such as facilities descriptions, data management plans, etc.
6. Identifies internal reviewers to provide feedback for grant applications, including responsiveness to sponsor guidelines and priorities
7. Develops and maintains familiarity with sponsor trends and funding opportunities
8. Becomes knowledgeable about general research activities and expertise in each college
9. Coordinates with faculty teams (as well as partners outside KSU) from various disciplines and departments to support interdisciplinary research and collaborative grant proposals
10. Organizes internal proposal reviews and prepares and maintains budgets for internal awards
11. Monitors research development activities and prepares written reports evaluating efforts anddisseminating findings
12. Coordinates logistics, communication, data analysis and assessment, assisting leadership in the execution of the strategic plans for research development

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in Business, Educational Research, Math, Social Science, Public Health, Public Administration, English, Communications or related field

Required Experience
Five (5) years grant-related and/or research development work experience

Preferred Qualifications


Additional Preferred Qualifications
Computer and technology skills, including the ability to learn new programs quickly
Inquisitive nature
Certified Research Administrator (CRA or CPRA)

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education

Preferred Experience
Experience with grant and contract policies of federal, state and private sponsors
Experience working one-on-one with faculty to develop grant proposal submission plans
Experience working with faculty on developing and submitting grant proposals, including through online portals (NIH Assist, Grants.gov, Fastlane/Research.gov, ProposalCentral)
Experience in writing, editing, proofreading
Experience with electronic grants management systems
Experience giving presentations and workshops in research administration

Familiarity with a wide variety of Federal and non-profit funding opportunities
Experience preparing responses to requests for proposals/applications for research and programmatic funding from government, philanthropic, and private industry organizations

SKILLS
Proficient math skills and able to construct and manage a budget
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem-solving, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management, and presentation skills
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e. Microsoft Office suite)
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
