Cross-train and become capable of performing multiple functions in the Wax Cell environment. Operators classified at the “C” level will be proficient at introductory-level wax pattern rework, either introductory-level injection or introductory-level assembly functions, basic-level wax pattern rework, intermediate-level injection, introductory wax / core inspection and basic assembly functions (with one exemption).
Tools and Equipment:
Hot irons, clippers, smoothing wires, scalpels, angle tools, spacers, sprue holding fixtures, Bunsen burners, wax injection presses and equipment, wax dies, weighing scale, calipers, micrometers, gages, scotch brite, and a variety of other common hand tools
Materials:
Sticktite, patching wax, butcher’s wax, cores, ceramic collars, plastic caps, wax patterns, lubricants, logbook, various wax apparatus.

Working Procedure:
The following are the usual major job duties, but this job description does not preclude the performance of other duties as assigned by the supervisor:
- Cell Goal: The ultimate goal of a Wax Cell Operator is to be cross trained for all jobs within the department. Operators are given the opportunity and will be expected to train with the goal of achieving “Wax Cell Operator B” status.
- INTRODUCTORY WAX INJECTION:
Injection of gates, sprues, and simple wax patterns
- INTERMEDIATE WAX INJECTION:
Injection of larger and / or more delicate or detailed patterns
- INTRODUCTIORY WAX REWORK:
Reworking simple wax configurations
Understanding the concepts and methods used in threading studs to wax patterns
- BASIC WAX REWORK:
Demonstrated ability to thread patterns through established procedures
Learning to rework the more simple soluble wax configurations
- INTRODUCTORY ASSEMBLY / SUB ASSEMBLY
Assembly of non-production wax patterns, simple wax patterns, etc.
- BASIC ASSEMBLY / SUB ASSEMBLY
Learn sub assembly of simple production patterns with less specialized gating
Sub-assembly of cores
- INTRODUCTORY WAX / CORE INSPECTION
Learn what to look for and what methods are used to correct defects.
- Employee can and will be required to perform functions of any of the previous Wax Cell Operator classifications as the supervisor sees fit.
- Must follow all safety requirements of job as outlined on the job safety card
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
- Complete all paperwork associated with the job. Correctly maintain all forms and instruction sheets
- Maintain a clean and orderly working environment
- Inform your supervisor about problems that occur
- May be required to handle hazardous waste by collecting and transferring the waste into proper containers at satellite storage areas or storage areas and assuring that the containers are properly inspected, labeled, and closed as required. Must follow correct instruction for handling hazardous waste and report any deviations to supervisor immediately. Must attend yearly instruction in hazardous waste handling and review of current procedures if job duties could affect non-compliance.
- A fully and properly trained "C" classification of Wax Cell Operator must be able to perform introductory wax injection, introductory wax rework, introductory assembly, intermediate wax injection, basic wax rework, basic subassembly / assembly and introductory wax/core inspection (with 1 exemption. There may be one exemption to these training requirements.
- Candidate must be able to read and understand verbal and / or written instructions
- A vision requirement of 20/30 near correctable is necessary
- Requires sufficient strength and physical dexterity to frequently lift up to 35 lbs.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
